The 3rd International Workshop on Social Communication and Information Activity in Digital Humanities (SCIA-2024) will be held in Lviv, Ukraine on
October 31, 2024.

The SCIA-2024 workshop will be held in a hybrid format, featuring both offline and online presentations of peer-reviewed individual papers. Please note that papers that are not presented at the workshop will not be submitted for publication. Participation in the workshop is free of charge.
All papers intended for participation at the workshop should be SUBMITTED VIA THE ONLINE FORM
Proceedings of the SCIA-2024 shall be submitted to CEUR-WS.org for online publication.

The digital humanities operates at the intersection of computer and information technology, social sciences, and the humanities. Digital humanities results from the implementation of collaborative cross-disciplinary research through the use of traditional and approbation of modified methods.
The SCIA workshop aims to disseminate and exchange ideas and practical experience in using digital and information methods in the humanitarian sphere.
Scientific reports, speeches, and discussions within the workshop framework will allow for a productive exchange of experience between domestic and foreign scientists and practitioners in digital humanities. It will strengthen relationships between higher education institutions regarding establishing and deepening scientific cooperation and exchanging research results on the workshop topics.
Topic 1. Digitization of historical and cultural objects
The issues of the topic cover the creation of digital archives, libraries, and digital curation, the creation and maintenance of digital repositories of historical and cultural data, the use of virtual and augmented reality technologies, geospatial and cultural analysis for the presentation of cultural heritage, digital art events and art management of cultural processes, identifying spatial models and trends in historical and cultural data.
Topic 2. Computational linguistics in the practices of digital humanities
The issues of the topic cover the use of applied linguistics tools (text analytics, text mining, natural language processing) and involve quantitative and qualitative analysis of literary texts to identify key concepts, interpretations, trends, and connections.
Topic 3. Data visualization, image processing and media design
The issue of information visualization in digital humanities involves the creation and use of tools for presenting and analyzing large data sets, such as graphs, charts, infographics, and information panels. Developed innovative forms of presentation of quantitative data obtained from textual and cartographic materials, designed to illustrate traditional qualitative humanities research.
The issue of image processing involves the study of ways and methods of studying digitized images of artifacts (manuscripts, old prints, works of fine and decorative arts) for interpretation and reconstruction.
The issue of media design covers the development and analysis of digital content intended for publication on various platforms (logos, book and magazine covers, advertising, infographics, multimedia).
Topic 4. Social media and information behavior
The issues of the topic cover the analysis of information interaction of users of social networks and the blogosphere at the level of individuals, communities, organizations, and cultures in the context of identifying new ideas and understanding social and historical processes of the development of society.
Topic 5. Open science, open data and scholarly digital resources
The issues of the topic cover innovative ways of scientific communication, cooperation, distribution of digital scientific content, and implementation of intellectual projects.
Topic 6. Digital pedagogy and media education
The issues of the section cover the use of modern digital technologies in teaching and learning in online, hybrid, and face-to-face learning environments; the formation of media culture in society and the safety of interaction with the modern media system.

Please read carefully the requirements for preparing papers for submiting. Non-compliance with all specified requirements may serve as a reason for rejection of the submission even before peer-review.
1. General Requirements for Papers:
1.1. Submission should be original paper, not previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
1.2. The working language of the workshop is English. We kindly ask you to proofread the English of your papers.
1.2. The volume of submitted paper should be at least 10 full pages.
1.3. At least one of the co-authors of the paper must have at least 5 publications indexed in the DBLP database.
1.4. One paper should not have more than 6 co-authors.
1.5. One author cannot co-author more than 1 paper.
1.6. The paper structure should generally include:
– Abstract;
– Keywords;
– Introduction;
– Related Works;
– Proposed methodology/model/technique;
– Results/Discussions;
– Conclusion;
– References.
1.7. References should reflect modern international research from the past 5-8 years. Each source cited in the references list must be substantiated.
1.8. Self-citation must be substantiated. Excessive self-citation is unacceptable.
1.9. One cascade (group) citation should consist of no more than 3 sources. The use of cascade citations of more than 3 items (e.g., [1-10]) will be considered as a low level of elaboration of the source base of the study.
2. Paper Formatting Requirements:
2.1. Papers should be prepared using the Word Template in CEURART (download). Please pay attention especially to the font size and style used for the paper title, section/subsection headers, figure and table captions.
2.2. References should be formatted according to the guidelines provided in the Word Template in CEURART. All references should be presented in English, and if necessary, in Latin transliteration with notation [in Ukrainian], [in French], etc.
2.3. All figures should be of high quality for good reproduction during CEUR publication.
2.4. All abbreviations should be explained beforehand.
2.5. The size of letters and numbers in formulas and formula fragments in the text should be consistent.
3. Procedure for Accepting Papers:
3.1. Papers must be submitted via the online form by September 1, 2024. All submissions will be checked for plagiarism, compliance with the workshop topic, and all formal requirements. Papers that do not meet all requirements will be rejected.
3.2. Authors of the papers that meet all requirements will receive a notification by September 16, 2024, regarding their acceptance for peer-review through the EasyChair platform.
3.3. Authors will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of their papers to the workshop and reviews by October 14, 2024.
3.4. By October 21, authors must update the final version of their papers on the EasyChair platform and send the following files to scia.conf@lpnu.ua:
– Final versions of their accepted papers in PDF and DOC format;
– Presentation;
– Video recording of the speech;
– Synopsis addressing the reviewers’ recommendations and including their consent;
– Author agreement to publish a contribution as open-access on CEUR-WS.org.
3.5. By October 28, authors will receive a notification with the workshop program.
3.6. Papers that are not presented at the workshop on October 31, 2024, will not be submitted for publication on CEUR-WS.org.
Submitted papers will be checked for plagiarism using the Unicheck service and will be peer-reviewed by two scholars on the issues of technical quality, relevance, originality, significance, and clarity. If necessary, a third, additional reviewer will be involved. The Program Committee will use these reviews to determine which papers will be accepted for presentation at the workshop. The result of the reviewing will be announced to the submitting authors by email, along with reviewer comments, if any.
The paper will be rejected if signs of plagiarism or non-compliance with the requirements are detected.
Accepted papers which will be presented at the workshop shall be submitted to CEUR-WS.org for online publication.
